Ivo "Jobo" Kurtini was born in Fiume on 23rd August 1922. He was a gigantic athlete and powerful shooter who excelled in the 1950's. He is the player who has represented the National team of Yugoslavia the greatest number of times and won the silver medal in the Helsinki Olympics in 1952. Before representing Yugoslavia, he competed in the colours of the Italian National team, since Istria became part of Yugoslavia after the World War II. After his career as Water Polo player, he continued as a succesful coach of Canottieri Napoli, Posillipo and Fanfulla. For many years the Croatian Water Polo Federation organized in his memory the " Jobo Kurtini" International tournament.
